Donnie Smith, Director and Principal Consultant
Donnie Smith leads Meridian CPL as Director and Principal Consultant. His background combines many years of large-scale operational delivery with practical experience in business operations, workplace process support, compliance documentation, investigations, IT systems, evidence analysis, policy development and commercial negotiations.
That breadth matters for smaller organisations, where compliance, people, contracts and technology are rarely separate problems. Donnie works directly with owners, boards and management teams to understand each organisation, agree a clear scope and deliver practical, well-documented results.

The Experience Behind Meridian
A journey from large-scale international projects to structured, human support close to home
Before founding Meridian CPL, Donnie spent many years delivering large-scale, time-critical projects in demanding international environments. As build manager on a bespoke well-intervention system for Expro Axis, he coordinated complex engineering programmes to tight deadlines and exacting standards. His work included testing programmes in the Norwegian fjords, offshore projects spanning remotely operated vehicles, electrical and instrumentation systems, and a role as electrical lead on Siemens wind-turbine programmes. He also planned and supervised rope-access, rigging and lifting operations, where safety, precision and clear procedure leave no room for error.
Alongside this, he carried out medical-physics work across hospitals in the Scottish Highlands, applying the same rigour in sensitive clinical environments where accuracy and accountability directly affect people's care.
In 2019, a serious accident left Donnie with a spinal injury and a registered disability. Recovery was long and demanding, and it changed his perspective on how organisations treat people during periods of difficulty.
In the years that followed, he worked alongside a senior associate of a large UK legal firm. That experience gave him a close, practical understanding of traditional professional cultures, institutional processes, and the realities of disability discrimination, seen from the perspective of the individual navigating them.
Meridian CPL grew directly from this combination of large-scale operational experience, commercial insight and lived understanding of adversity. Donnie made a deliberate decision to turn hard-won capability into calm, structured and proportionate support for organisations and individuals facing employer-related, institutional or mental-health pressures. The firm works from evidence, holds firm professional boundaries, and stays clear about the limits of its role.
A Personal Perspective
Why resilience, fairness and standing alongside people matter to us
Alongside his professional work, Donnie Smith is a closed-door disciple and the Scottish representative of Little Nine Heaven, a traditional Taoist martial art with a lineage stretching back thousands of years. As a lifelong practitioner and instructor, he studies its core disciplines, including Ju Kung, the Nine Chamber Fist, Chian-Kuan Jen swordsmanship, and Shih Shui, the internal bone marrow washing practice.
Little Nine Heaven is far more than a physical art. Its Taoist principles centre on balance, clarity of mind and resilience, and Donnie has drawn on them personally through periods of significant physical rehabilitation. Teaching this tradition has connected him with a global network of practitioners and allowed him to guide individuals of all ages, supporting mental health, wellbeing and personal development.
He is also the Scottish representative for Silat Suffian Bela Diri, a traditional Bruneian martial art rooted in Malay warrior heritage, sharing both its cultural insight and its movement-based approach to resilience.
